NASA Targets a Fivefold Gain in High-speed Energy Efficiency with X-57 Program

The electric-powered X-57 Maxwell prototype is NASA’s first manned X-plane experimental aircraft in more than two decades.

The Pentagon is looking for help from private sector eVTOL aircraft developers to meet its needs for autonomous battleground lift capability.
At least $170 million has already been allocated by the U.S. government for work to advance possible applications for eVTOL aircraft as autonomously-operated cargo carrying platforms.
